Why Fat Tuesday?
On Tuesday March 1, we celebrate Mardi Gras which literally translates to “Fat Tuesday,” the day before the lenten season begins. Lent is a religious observance in Christian faith, which begins the day after Fat Tuesday; a day when people from all over the world begin their lenten fast, in preparation for Easter.
The Gathering, now an interfaith ministry, was founded with Christian roots; we find it fitting to keep our history alive by living our mission. We want to ensure our community gets to celebrate the season ahead, with a big, southern meal.

The Celebration
To celebrate Mardi Gras is a luxury; we eat all of the richest foods and have a big party with our friends, family and community. This year, we want to celebrate with our guests. So, in honor of Mardi Gras, we are serving two southern Fat Tuesday meals, free to the Milwaukee community.
Dinner is served on Monday evening, Feb. 28, 4:30-5:30pm
at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1236 S Layton Blvd
Breakfast is served on Tuesday morning, Mar. 1, 8:30-9:30am
at Running Rebels, 1300 W Fond du Lac Ave
If you’re unable to volunteer but would like to be involved, you can make an online gift. All funds raised will go toward providing a hearty Fat Tuesday meal for our neighbors.
“Everywhere else, it’s just Tuesday.”
